Why WordPress?

WordPress is one of the most popular site-building and content management systems in the world. According to WordPress.org, WordPress powers 35% of the web—that’s over 1 in 4 websites.

There are many reasons why WordPress is so popular. One reason is that it’s free and open source. This means that anyone can download, install, and use WordPress for their website or blog without having to pay for it.

Another reason WordPress is so popular is that it’s relatively easy to use, even for beginners. With a few clicks, you can create a new page or post, add images or videos, and customize the look of your site with themes and plugins.

WordPress is also very versatile. You can use it to build a simple personal blog or a complex corporate website. You can also use it to create an online store, a portfolio site, or a membership site.

If you’re thinking about building a website with WordPress, here are some reasons why you should choose WordPress:
-It’s free and open source
-It’s easy to use
-It’s versatile
-It has a huge community of users

Choosing a domain name and hosting

Your domain name is your website’s address on the internet. It’s what your visitors will type in to find your site. For example, our domain name is www.wpbeginner.com. Once you have settled on a domain name, the next step is to find a web hosting service to host your website.

Web hosting is a service that connects your website to the internet. When you are ready to launch your website, you will need to sign up for a web hosting service. We recommend using Bluehost because they are one of the largest and most popular web hosting services. They offer a free domain name and WordPress hosting for as little as $3.95 per month ( this low price only applies for your first term).

To get started, head over to Bluehost and click on “Get Started Now”.

Installing WordPress

There are a few different ways to install WordPress. We’ll cover the two most popular methods: installing WordPress manually via FTP, and using Fantastico in cPanel. If you’re not sure which method to use, we recommend using Fantastico, as it is the easiest way to install WordPress.

Before you can install WordPress, you will need to sign up for hosting and choose a domain name for your website. Once you have your hosting account and domain name set up, you can proceed with the installation.

If you plan to install WordPress manually via FTP, you will need an FTP client such as Filezilla. We also recommend that you create a database for WordPress on your web server beforehand. You can do this using cPanel’s MySQL Database Wizard or via phpMyAdmin.

Installing WordPress Manually Via FTP
1. Download the latest release of WordPress from https://wordpress.org/download/.
2. Unzip the downloaded file to extract the WordPress files and folders.
3. Connect to your web server using an FTP client such as Filezilla.
4. Upload the unzipped WordPress files and folders to your web server’s document root directory (usually public_html, www or htdocs).
5. Create a database for WordPress on your web server (see above).
6. Find the file named wp-config-sample.php in the root directory of the unzipped WordPress files and rename it to wp-config .php .
7Open wp-config .php in a text editor and update the following lines with your database details:
define( ‘DB_NAME’, ‘database_name_here’ ); define( ‘DB_USER’, ‘username_here’ ); define( ‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘password_here’ ); define( ‘DB_HOST’, ‘localhost’ ); 8Save wp-config .php and close the file

Selecting a WordPress theme

There are two ways you can go about finding the right theme for your WordPress website. The first is to browse through the pre-made themes that are available on the WordPress.org website. The second is to find a theme through a third-party website.

There are pros and cons to both of these methods. Browsing through the pre-made themes on WordPress.org is convenient because you can do it all from one site. However, there are a limited number of options to choose from and you may not be able to find exactly what you’re looking for.

Searching for a WordPress theme on a third-party website gives you access to a much wider range of options, but it can be more time-consuming. You’ll also need to make sure that the theme you choose is compatible with the version of WordPress you’re using.

Once you’ve found a few potential themes, it’s time to narrow down your choices. Here are some things to consider:

-Does the theme have a professional appearance?
-Is the layout easy to navigate?
-Is the design responsive (meaning it will look good on all devices)?
-Does the theme come with support?
-Is the code well written?
-Is the theme regularly updated?
-Does the theme have good reviews?
